Heat training workouts

The cycling community is raging about how useful heat adaptation training is and I would like to start training it soon myself, but find it hard to know how to combine it with regular workouts. Since i’m a Join cycling user it would be great if i could do it all in the Join app.

Hi Stijn - I have been doing heat training since getting my Core sensor ages ago. I am quite new to Join though.

I find that progression with the Core app is actually really easy: instead of doing what I did at the start - putting on full winter kit and making myself very uncomfortably hot and then going into the dangerous heat zone almost immediately - I just keep the fans off, have the heating on and all doors and windows closed. I do any type of session as heat training up to 1.5 hours long. I generally don’t do anything less than an hour as a heat session. With Join, I’m doing a VO2 Max session later. I’ll have normal kit and no fans on. I would expect to drink about 1.25 l of fluid during the session and my heart rate drift will be about 10% higher than normal. I would expect a 2% increase in my Heat Accustomed score from a session of 1.5 hours. This is on top of addressing the decrease if I’ve not heat trained for two days. I find it pretty straightforward to stay in the top category just by doing two heat sessions per week.

    Hope that helps.
