Preferably offer strength/ power training during short rides. Avoid strength during long rides

I love to execute strength training on my indoor trainer since the quality of that training will be very high and effective. For me, rides on the indoor trainer have a maximum duration of 1,5 hours, any longer is unfeasable. The reason: long rides on the indoor trainer are extremely boring and mentally exhausting.

Very often JOIN suggests strength training during a long endurance ride. I will always ride longer rides outside.

Strength during long rides outsides comes with a few downsides:

  • the quality of the training will be far lower/suboptimal

  • difficult to respect duration of the intervals (effort & rest)

  • difficult to target the right power zone

  • you have to adapt the route in function of the intervals, wich makes the route less attractive & fun, which is a shame for longer endurance rides
